LAGOS BEGINS STRICT BAN ON SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

Lagos Begins Strict Ban on Single-Use Plastics Under 40 Microns
Lagos State has officially started enforcing its ban on single-use plastics (SUPs) below 40 microns, including styrofoam packs, plastic straws, disposable cups, cutlery, and lightweight nylon bags. Environment Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab warned that any store or market found selling or storing these items will be sealed and offenders prosecuted.

The state government says there’s no turning back after an 18-month grace period, emphasizing that the move is to protect residents’ health and the environment. Producers are urged to embrace eco-friendly alternatives, with assurances that more jobs will be created through sustainable practices.
