ECOWAS Parliament Speaker Hadja Memounatou Ibrahima urged West African nations to adopt a robust legal framework for AI development during a joint committee meeting in Dakar. Highlighting education technology and innovation, she stressed the need for new learning models to meet global tech demands and tackle challenges like digital inequality and poor infrastructure.

Senegal’s Education Minister Moustapha Guirassy echoed the call, emphasizing Africa must become AI creators and regulators. Senegal is investing heavily in digital education and proposes a West African Pact on AI in education, guided by ethics and local languages.
