West African Tour Operators Demand Action for Seamless Cross-Border Travel
Tour operators from across West Africa are calling for urgent reforms to make cross-border travel easier and more efficient. Speaking at the Accraweizo 2025 Travel Expo in Ghana, industry leaders stressed the need for public-private partnerships, better road networks, and improved border facilities to cut costs and boost tourism.
NATOP President Bolaji Mustapha urged governments to work with the private sector, citing Kenya’s tourism success as a model. She also called for bilingual content and more cultural collaborations to bridge language gaps and showcase the region’s heritage.
Operators highlighted the need for a regional tourism directory and inclusion of local festivals in travel itineraries. They agreed that smooth border experiences and positive media stories are key to building traveler confidence and unlocking West Africa’s tourism potential.
