PDP NEC Meeting in Limbo as Rival NWC Factions Clash Over Schedule
Uncertainty clouds the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting amid a power struggle between two National Working Committee (NWC) factions. Acting Chairman Umar Damagum’s group claims the NEC meeting is postponed, scheduling an expanded caucus meeting at 2 p.m. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman Taofeek Arapaja’s faction insists the NEC meeting will hold as planned at 2 p.m. on June 30, at the same venue.
Arapaja, backed by eight NWC members, dismissed claims of postponement and a fake notice about an “Expanded National Caucus” meeting, calling it unconstitutional. He stressed that the PDP constitution mandates the NEC meeting date and forbids any unilateral rescheduling.
The Damagum faction, via reinstated Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, announced their own exclusive expanded caucus meeting with invited party heavyweights, deepening the divide.
