Nigeria and Saint Lucia Move to Formalize Diplomatic Ties
President Bola Tinubu and Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Philip Pierre have agreed to formalize diplomatic relations during Tinubu’s state visit to the Caribbean nation. Speaking at a courtesy meeting, Tinubu highlighted the deep historical and cultural bonds between Africa and the Caribbean and emphasized expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
Tinubu also stressed improving consular services and collaborating on global issues like climate change and development financing, affirming Nigeria’s support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Prime Minister Pierre expressed optimism about the partnership, noting shared cultural ties and opportunities in agriculture, entertainment, education, and infrastructure.
