FROM COAL TO CONVERSATION: DR. JOHN MOMOH CHARGES MEDIA TO HEAL AND UNITE NIGERIA
At the heart of Nigeria’s Coal City, Dr. John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Media Group, lit up the 2025 Nigerian Guild of Editors National Biennial Convention with a powerful call to action. His message? The media isn’t just a mirror—it’s a mighty tool to build a secure, cohesive Nigeria through dialogue, inclusion, and fearless journalism.
Momoh took the stage in Enugu, a city steeped in journalistic history and the scars of the Biafra War, reminding attendees that healing begins with listening to the forgotten voices. From the legendary pens of Nnamdi Azikiwe to the brave broadcasters of Radio Biafra, Enugu’s media pioneers showed that truth can shine brightest in the darkest times.
With the convention theme, “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion and the Media,” Momoh urged journalists to go beyond reporting conflict—be bridge-builders, spotlight solutions, and amplify every Nigerian’s voice, especially women, youth, and minorities.
“Media shapes public opinion and national mood,” he said. “With power comes responsibility. Let’s raise our standards, pursue truth over clicks, and nurture the next generation with courage and integrity.”
From the historic press capital of Eastern Nigeria, Dr. Momoh’s rallying cry was clear: The media must not only inform but inspire and rebuild the nation, shaping Nigeria as it ought to be—just, inclusive, and united.
