Ex-International Footballer Segun Hunkarin Arrested in Cocaine Smuggling Bust at Lagos Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested former footballer Segun Hunkarin and his business partner Ntoruka Chinedu for attempting to smuggle 800 grams of cocaine into Nigeria via Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Chinedu, a frequent traveler between Turkey and Nigeria, was caught first on June 24 with 37 wraps of cocaine in his carry-on luggage, collected during a transit in Addis Ababa.
Hunkarin, who played professionally in Brazil, was waiting at the airport car park to receive the drugs and was promptly arrested. He admitted to trafficking drugs twice between Brazil and Ethiopia but denied bringing any into Nigeria.
In a related arrest, Europe-based businessman Amen Okoro was caught trying to smuggle 5,000 tramadol pills disguised as malaria drugs to Spain. NDLEA continues nationwide operations targeting drug trafficking, alongside community sensitization efforts.
