Brig.-Gen Omopariola: Drug Abuse Threatens Nigeria’s Future, Soldiers Must Take a Stand
The Commander of 17 Brigade, Brig.-Gen Babatunde Omopariola, has warned that drug addiction is draining Nigeria’s workforce and endangering its future. Speaking at the 2025 Nigerian Army Day in Katsina, he urged soldiers to report anyone caught using drugs, stressing that courage doesn’t come from substance use.

Omopariola called on parents to intervene early, highlighting that drug habits often start young. He emphasized that fighting drug abuse is crucial for national productivity, health, and stability.

NDLEA’s Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim linked insecurity in Nigeria to drug abuse, dismissing unemployment as an excuse. She urged the nation to treat drug abuse as a public health crisis requiring collective action.
