CSOs, NGOs Urge African Leaders: Act Now to End Road Traffic Deaths
Civil society and NGOs are calling on African governments to take urgent, coordinated action to cut road traffic deaths across the continent. The appeal came at the first General Assembly of the African Association of Road Safety Lead Agencies (AARSLA) in Lusaka, where Nigeria was named Secretary and host of the new AARSLA Secretariat.
Dr. Yusuf Suberu, representing Nigerian CSOs, stressed that road safety is a humanitarian crisis needing real action—not just talk. He urged leaders to partner with civil society for grassroots campaigns, better crash response, and stronger safety policies.
With Nigeria now leading AARSLA, the focus must shift to real results: safer roads, fewer deaths, and empowered communities. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed pledged Nigeria’s commitment to modern road safety and praised the vital role of CSOs and NGOs.
