CIVIL SERVICE 2.0: AFRICA’S REBOOT TIME IS NOW!

CIVIL SERVICE 2.0: AFRICA’S REBOOT TIME IS NOW!

Africa’s civil service is ditching the dusty old playbook! Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, Nigeria’s Head of Civil Service, just dropped the mic at the first-ever International Conference on Civil Service Reform — and trust us, it’s all about shaking things up, speeding up, and leveling up.

At the Abuja conference themed “Rejuvenate, Innovate and Accelerate,” Walson-Jack laid it out straight: Africa’s civil service systems are stuck in the past, and that’s no longer cutting it. Bureaucracy shouldn’t mean slow and stagnant. It’s time to turbocharge policy, service delivery, and digital tech to meet the high expectations of today’s citizens.
She called for a civil service reboot — one that’s younger, more inclusive (hello, women and marginalized groups!), and values-driven to win back public trust. The Nigerian civil service is already on the move with digital IDs, paperless offices, and performance systems tied to national goals. Plus, training programmes are gearing up to build next-gen public servants.
Walson-Jack’s message? The future is now, and young professionals are not just waiting in the wings — they’re centre stage. With bold ideas and teamwork across sectors, Africa’s civil service can be the engine driving real change.
